Cabot Water-Borne Pre-Stain Conditioner seals soft and porous wood, so the application of stain achieves uniform penetration for more even stain color and consistent appearance. Water-Borne formulation means easy application, clean up and fast dry. This product dries quickly. Do not let the pre-stain conditioner begin to dry, or stain will not penetrate wood surface.

Coverage

One quart covers up to 100 sq. ft. (9.3 m²) depending upon surface porosity. Do not thin.

Where to Use

Cabot Water-Borne Interior Pre-Stain Conditioner is ideal for use on porous, soft-grained woods in order to achieve uniform penetration of stain. Formulated to stabilize uneven wood grain, it ensures a more even stain color and consistent appearance. Water base formulation means easy application, clean up and fast dry.

Preparing Your Surfaces

General: Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, wax and wood marks.
New Wood: Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, wax and wood marks.
Painted or Varnished Wood: Remove all paint and varnish with sandpaper or paint and varnish remover following manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions. Then follow new wood instructions.

Application

On large surfaces, work quickly in small sections. Saturate wood with a uniform coat of Pre-Stain Conditioner using a clean, lint-free cloth, bristle or foam brush. Allow no more than 5 minutes for penetration. Then wipe off all excess. Immediately after removal of Conditioner, apply Cabot Water-Borne Stain following label directions. Do not allow Conditioner to dry. Surfaces which are allowed to dry will not accept stain!
